Willliam Young grew up in the south part of Mobile County near Dog River and Mobile Bay, spending every spare moment on the water--fishing, soft shelling, and floundering. A self-taught enthusiast who developed a passion for black and white photography about 30 years ago during the film era, he has an affinity for the natural beauty of the area, and attempts to capture something essential about it in his images. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, and contributed photographic images for a college textbook. He holds bachelor and master's degrees from the University of South Alabama, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi. His recent retirement affords him time to devote to more leisurely pursuits, and he has found he excels in propping up his feet, ordering shrimp and a Corona with a twist of lime, and watching a sunset over the water. Sometimes he will even pick up his camera and take a picture of it.
