Perry Zirlott has been building things out of wood since the days when he was a kid growing up next to his grandfather’s boat yard at West Fowl River. After-hours the boat yard was a playground for him, his brother, and his cousins. By the time he was eight years old he was working on the schooners being built there. He has made a living on the waters of the Gulf all his life and enjoys using wood working tools to craft many things. Building wooden bird pictures has been his hobby for many years as well as crafting tiny skiffs, crab boats, and other forms of wood work. He and his family divide their time between living on the river and on Dauphin Island.
