Our vision is to emphasize, celebrate and showcase Dauphin Island’s rich history, heritage and artistic talent, and to reach and serve every member of our community by providing opportunities for expression, appreciation, education and participation in the arts.


DIHAC is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to community participation and education in the arts and heritage of Dauphin Island and South Mobile County, AL.
DIHAC’s sources of support include:

  • Our wonderful and generous volunteers
  • Grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and private foundations
  • Commissions on the sale of local art in the Dauphin Island Gallery

  • Encourage a community interest and passion for the arts and local heritage
  • Ensure access to the arts and local heritage for all ages
  • Provide opportunities for education, expression, appreciation and participation in the arts and local heritage
  • Support, partner and collaborate with others committed to similar community endeavors


  • Highlight and promote the art of Dauphin Island and South Mobile County through operation of Dauphin Island Gallery
  • Provide free public access to historical material, vintage photos, memorabilia and artifacts from Dauphin Island / South Mobile County’s rich heritage and history
  • Provide art classes and other education opportunities to community residents, including youth and children
  • Present live storytelling through “Stirring the Sand”, a series featuring life experiences and stories of Old Dauphin Island, and preserving local stories and traditions (free and open to the public)
  • Create opportunities for area residents and visitors to experience and appreciate art and culture through DIHAC’s “Last Friday Art Night” series (free and open to the public) and other events
